If I could have wandered through a rainforest somewhere in a beautiful destination only to stumble upon the fountain of youth, you bet I would’ve bottled that up and drank from it long ago. But hey, I’m Asian and that’s pretty much swimming in it, right? Yeah, right. Perfect skin is something dreams are made of, and on a personal level, has by far been the toughest year with my skin yet. The stress of moving from East Coast Canada to West Coast USA, the climate and lifestyle changes don’t exactly scream, “Thank you. Here are the keys to your brand new perfect skin.” I’ve been on the hunt for products that help me retain my youth or seeking out for what has so far been widely known for being the impossible – reversing signs of aging without having to do a procedure.
Travelling, lack of water, little sleep and living in a completely new environment has left my skin looking exhausted. Halfway into 2016, I noticed the lines on my face beginning to deepen, the bags under my eyes getting darker, and for that cherry on top of all those not-so-wonderful things, my hormonal skin decided it was time to go into full blown adult acne.
Months ago, I looked at my reflection, and sad to say, for a short period, I didn’t see myself anymore. My acne flared up to the point where I could’ve been the girl on TV doing an acne commercial. The acne scars I got gave me uneven skin tone and the infamous polluted and dry Southern California weather was causing me to get deeper wrinkles. The lines on my forehead were getting deeper. In a weak moment, I really felt bad for myself. I let my bad skin definite who I was. For the first time in my life, I deeply desired something that would brighten my skin tone and reverse my age, even to what it was like just 6 months before. When you have so many elements working against you as I have especially when you travel all the time and come from a much more humid climate, the aging process is frighteningly fast. So, I went on the hunt for the impossible – age reversal products. Not the creams and moisturizers that claim they’ll get rid of your crows feet. No. I wanted something more.
In my hunt to find the Fountain of Youth, I came across SmoothBeauty Age Defying Laser (which was then was named Tria Beauty), an in-home laser treatment that replicates what is done as a procedure in office, only much lighter, so that you could use it for months and get gradual results. “The SmoothBeauty™ Laser promotes a natural collagen renewal process that dramatically reduces the look of key signs of aging.” I read so many great reviews, saw some dramatic images of before and afters, and the fact that it was FDA approved made me feel more comfortable with the idea of using it, so I reached out to do a collaboration with SmoothBeauty and was so happy they said yes.
My kit included Super C Moisturizing Moisturizer and Finishing Serum with the SmoothBeauty Age Defying Laser, which comes with an adapter and charging station that keeps your laser charged after each use. The instructions were easy to follow, but I am a visual person, so the videos on YouTube were very helpful.
Before I go on, let me give you some history about my skin. I used to see a facialist once every month when my skin was really good. I previously used topical acne medication which made the skin become thin and more sensitive.
SmoothBeauty recommends using the laser for 12 weeks of use. The laser comes in 3 settings: Level 1 to Level 3. Level 1 is essentially the same treatment as level 3 but lighter and shorter in time, so that it allows the skin to get used to the treatment before increasing exposure. The serum and the moisturizer are made to help maximize the results of the use of the laser. During my first attempt at using the laser on Level 1, I was surprised and jumped at the sensation against my skin. Some people call it a tingly sensation, but I would describe it as touching something hot on a very tiny area of your face. On my first use, my skin would turn red as if it got a sunburn, but would be gone by the time I woke up from sleep. They recommended avoiding any acne prone areas, which was fine because I didn’t need it on those areas anyways. After using SmoothBeauty Laser for 2 days, I found it really easy to use and after a week, I moved up to Level 2. By the one week mark, I already noticed that my fine lines were greatly reduced when I looked at my reflection every morning. I was so happy.
At Level 2, my skin was even redder after using SmoothBeauty and stayed red for 12 hours, so I made sure to start it earlier in the night so that it wouldn’t be as red when I woke up the next morning. I noticed my skin would appear a little bumpy, as though I got a slight heat rash, but nothing would come of it. It was like a sunburn. It took effect me a month to sum up the courage to go to level 3
At Level 3, my skin was more sensitive. The redness stayed for at least a full day. It felt a littler rough when I touched my face, but the lines still reduced. I noticed if I waited for the roughness subside before using it again, my face would look and feel smoother. So I used SmoothBeauty every other day.
After 3 months of SmoothBeauty
Before the laser, you can see I had more spots and deeper wrinkles on my forehead. After 3 months of use, my skin tone is more even. It’s been 3 months and I can honestly say, that SmoothBeauty gives you visible results. I did not expect it to be some miracle that stops you from having expression lines when you laughed or frowned, but it definitely reduced the depth and visibility of fine lines and wrinkles, probably by about half. If you’re expecting it to be like botox or to magically make everything go away, SmoothBeauty Age Defying Laser isn’t what you’re looking for. It does make the lines smooth out. I only wish there were a lighter travel sized version. SmoothBeauty has been is my miracle Fountain of Youth. I’ll continue to use it to maintain my skin, and am so happy I actually went ahead and ordered this.
What do you think of my results? Have you ever been concerned with aging and getting wrinkles? Is this something you’d try?
