On my final day for the previews of New York Fashion Week FW17 Collections, I felt a little bit sad to know I would be leaving the city I had become so attached to the last few years. I was tired, but didn’t really want to leave. The experience had been so special to me, I wanted to finish with Dubai Designer, Over the Top. For their Spring/Summer 2017, they released an incredible collection of japanese-inspired silk prints. “Beautiful kitsch couture, terrific trash, fantastic flash and all things over the top!!! Glitter, sequins and embroidery color the dreams that has driven OTT”.
I would describe New York Fashion Week street fashion as sometimes being Over the Top, which made this the perfect piece to finish off this experience. I paired the jacket with a floral Masaki Matsuka bag. There is something truly special about these two pieces together that give a feeling of luxury, elegance and in a way, inspiration for modernizing special vintage pieces.
I had been using a photo slider for runway images, but thought I’ll pull a few good ones from the camera for this post that you could see individually.
NYFW DAY 5 RECAP
For FW17, Katty Xiomera showcased a lot of velvet & sheer fabrics. The looks represent a more demure elegance. The collection started with lighter tones and ended with blacks to represent the sun setting.
The Mémère presentation felt very ethereal. Inspiration was drawn from the “concept of Wabi Sabi; the condition of coming to terms with traditional ideals of beauty and imperfections” As you can see in the collection, there is a lot of hand washed silk chiffon and floral Leavers lace, which is also inspired by “early 19th century French Romantics & artists like Degas.” The lace work is truly beautiful, and being able to view the collections up closer is always a treat.
Known for dressing beautiful women for pageants and celebrities for red carpets, Sherri Hill sent a collection of gowns featuring sequins, open back and flowy fabrics. There were a lot of celebrities at this one, which goes to show you that her A-list clientelle is very high.
