We’re in the midst of summer which could only mean more road trips, vacations, beaches, resorts, destination weddings, exploration and a plethora of beautiful memories and special moments. In the spirit of a wanderlust who often thinks of where the warm breeze will take them next, hunting down fabulous spots, easy outfits, and adopting an effective, yet effortless everyday beauty routine becomes the most valuable skill to master. Having just travelled down to South Florida for Miami Swim Week, I wanted to share my must-have travel beauty essentials.
Last weekend, we stayed at the beautiful Hotel Colonade Coral Gables Luxury Hotel in the downtown area, where we’d have access to great local restaurants and cafes. The interior is gorgeous and, might I add, very instagrammable.
Nothing says vacation like an elegant and chic place to stay. We were fortunate to find a room at this lovely and grande hotel for a celebration. We were welcomed with a bottle of champagne, strawberries and chocolates, so of course the first thing after we arrived was kick back, relax and indulge!
FASHION & BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY FOR HOME & TRAVEL
I wasn’t sure of what to expect from Miami Swim Week, but my rule of thumb for any event is to always dress up because you just cannot go wrong with looking and feeling your very best! I am far from being a beauty expert, but what I do know is that fashion and beauty can add a bounce to your step and give you the boost of confidence you need to get through a dinner, meeting, party, fashion show or glam event. Part of feeling great on a regular basis is drinking lots of water, getting lots of rest, dressing well and having an effective beauty routine you can take with you wherever you go, because the last thing you want to do when you’re travelling is spend too much time in front of the mirror.
BEAUTY PRODUCTS TO PACK IN YOUR PURSE & CARRY-ON
One thing that doesn’t ever change on my commute to my next destination is the deeply dehydrated skin and oily hair, and I know many of you fellow travellers share the same sentiments! If you’re busy hopping from one place to another, you’re far from drinking enough water.
When I am expecting to fly or be in a vehicle for a long time, my purse usually includes a travel-sized moisturizer, SPF, dry shampoo, foundation, cleansing wipes and eyeliner. During the car ride, I apply just a few drops of Moroccanoil Pure Argan Oil by massaging it into my hands and face. Very little goes a long way, making this is a true a recipe for success. There’s no mess, and it’s super quick!
Upon arrival, freshening up in the ladies room is an absolute must! I add a little eyeliner, touch up my skin and spray a little Moroccanoil dark tone dry shampoo into my hair and massage it into the roots until the white film dissolves. It smells fresh, feels clean and adds volume back to lifeless hair again! Dry shampoo is also great to use during any trip for those moments you want to style your hair, as I do from time to time. I use the dark tone one, but there’s one avaialble for light hair as well.
WET-HAIR ROUTINE FOR THE AVID TRAVELER
There are 4 main products for when I wash my hair. I call this my wet-hair routine. Luckily they’re available in travel as a set called Hydrating Heroes Travel Set. These products comes are color-safe, come in their own beauty bag and include: Shampoo, Conditioner, Hydrating Hair Mask and Moroccanoil Treatment. If you didn’t know this already, argan oil includes Vitamin E which, renews, repairs and nourishes hair, which is particularly good for someone with dehydrated or damaged hair – truly perfect someone who likes to travel a lot since the water varies around the globe.
The shampoo and conditioner are rich in Vitamin A and Red Algae, which combat free radicals and retains moisture and adds back shine without feeling greasy. These two alone really helps add back moisture to my dehydrated, coarse and uncontrollable hair.
On the first day, instead of using conditioner, I use the Intense Hydrating Mask. It stays in my hair for 5 minutes. Once I rinse it out, I can immediately feel the difference! My hair becomes so incredibly silky, as though I’ve had a long hot oil treatment, except better because you don’t need heat or steam to activate the mask! On trips where I swim, I use it once more into the week. Next to the Moroccanoil Treatment, it’s actually my favourite hair product to use.
Finally, I put a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment into my hands and comb my fingers through the bottom half of my towel-dried hair. This is a step I never miss.
MANAGING DEHYDRATED SKIN THROUGHOUT YOUR TRIP
Does your skin feel tight after a hot shower? Mind always does! Between towel-drying and blowdrying my hair, I apply Dry Body Oil, which is paraben free and is perfect for dehydrated skin. Dry Body Oil absorbs quickly and improves the texture of my skin, especially around my forearm and legs, where they can appear especially dull and dry. We all deserve to have a beautiful glow, and it helps us get that special glow for great travel photos, am I right?
Finally, I add the Hydrating Styling Cream and blow dry my hair. With these products, drying time much shorter, and I can spend more time out seeing the sites!
Tom and I found some really cute spots during our trip. We love finding great cafes and brunch spots. It was honestly so humid, we couldn’t be outside for more than a few minutes before breaking a sweat. My hair stayed mostly tame and my skin felt amazing.
We had a couple of hours by the pool during our stay, so we took a dip in the rooftop pool overlooking the city. I always wear SPF on my face whenever I plan on going out. I personally do not like carrying full sized product with me anywhere. Moroccanoil’s Face Lotion SPF 30 is the perfect size, feels light on your skin and absorbs quickly, so there’s no wait time before applying make up. This travel-sized one is perfect for travelers like myself. It fits into a purse and can be added to any carry-on because it’s TSA approved, like all the products I use on my trips!
After taking in the pool, I use the Body Buff Fragrance Originale. It smells divine! While it can be used in the shower, I personally think the best time to use it is after taking a dip in the pool or ocean because the skin is already wet. I shower off thoroughly and then apply sunblock to clean skin.
When you’re in Miami, the one thing you must do is visit the beach. I usually apply styling cream into the my hair to give it more weight and hydration before running out the door. Hours later, my hair is mostly tamed. I am always impressed when products can prevent my hair from looking completely out of control when I’m spending time by the ocean!

Thanks for sharing all of your invaluable tips using Morrocan oil. I have a little brown glass bottle at home of the original treatment but I haven’t used it yet. I really must though if it helps to tame unruly hair and also assist with styling.
Your imagery is so gorgeous by the way. You make me dream of summer seeing that fab resort setting and sunny weather. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
