Fashion is a continuous cycle of trends that repeat, get reinterpreted and translated into modern times. One of the most beautiful seasons to shop is Fall/Winter collections; It’s always full of staple pieces that can be worn for years to come, including soft knits, cozy turtlenecks, suede over the knee boots, buttery leather jackets, comfy furs and of course, classic tailored coats. This season, I wanted to add a new coat to the wardrobe, but not just one that is camel or black. I deeply desired something that looked luxurious, yet classic enough to be worn following year and even 5 years from now, and Dezzal once again won my heart over; this time with a beautiful cobalt blue wool coat with a soft, removable collar.
Jewel tone blue never seems too boring or safe. This Dezzal wool coat has snap buttons with a belt that you can tie to accentuate the waist. It could be worn in so many ways. I break it down into a few ways you could wear this. I know for many who work 9 to 5 jobs, classic may be the more popular option. For the weekends, or for a little more fun, you can be more creative, add your own personal touches or go a little sexier.
A white shirt and black slacks, black overalls or a deep V sleeveless jumpsuit are all great things to pair with this coat. A leather skirt paired with a turtleneck or knit are also favourites. Finish with a great bag and dainy jewelry. Denim on denim is also a great casual combination to wear. I love a great dress, and here, I went with a black one from my closet. Afterall, a simple little black dress is neither over dressed or under dressed for any occasion. If you wear jewel tones often, a coat like this can still work really well in your wardrobe. Complementary tones like purples and fushia are fantastic.
Being someone who grew up loving sports, I love the athleisure trend. A turtleneck with leg sports-inspired pant or dri-fit leggings, finished off with sneakers would be great take on wearing a long wool coat, even with a feathered or fur collar. Instead of a dri fit legging, you can choose to go one step further by selecting a sports-inspired wide leg pant and wear ankle boots for a more luxurious look.
Embroidery, sequins, lace and a mix of textures are a great way to add some extra personality to your outfit. Lace is something I wear often, and would not hesitate to wear a intricate lace dress, or an embroidered skirt or top with this coat.
Things to Avoid
One thing I often avoid is over layering too many bulky pieces. With a winter coat, I still like to wear turtlenecks and sweaters, but I rarely pair something heavy up top with something equally heavy on the bottom unless it’s tailored or accentuates a smaller or flattering part of the body.
What do you think of this Dezzal piece? Are you on the hunt for a classic Fall coat you can wear for many season? Do you have a favourite piece you look forward to wearing every Fall? I’d love to hear in the comment below.
