Success is a funny thing and it’s often so generalized that when mentioned in a group, some may think you already have it when you feel you don’t. We associate success with having everything in life that we often desire – a great career, a loving and healthy family, time to travel, riches and the list can go on.
As much as social media shows everything picture perfect, it hardly is the case in real life. Gaining success is a great feeling when you plan, are strategic and more importantly, set the bar high, yet reachable with lots of hard work.
WHAT I’VE LEARNED ABOUT SUCCESS
Asking for the perfect life is only going to lead to some major disappointment, but learning to expect that not everything will always work out perfectly will help us learn. Life filled with success from time to time, but each and every one of us hardly ever feel like we are exactly where we want to be.
Success is Different for Everyone
Many of you have a life that someone else wants, so their definition of success is different from yours. Some want to spend their life travelling, others want more riches and others want a big home filled with a happy and healthy family, but most of us want a combination of these. Even then, they still vary for each and every individual.
Success Requires Planning
That saying that timing is everything, and being at the right place at the right time are both sayings I believe mostly make up what it takes to lead to success, but without knowing your goal, strategy and drive to act on the things you want out of life, you can be at the right place and time and lose that opportunity.
Success People Spend Time with Other Successful People
You have to visualize success, and successful people spend time with like-minded individuals who also are working towards success, or have gained tremendous success. They have a lot to learn and gain from each other. Sharing successes, failures and feeling inspired by those with great success can be helpful when you’re working towards it yourself.
Working Towards Gaining Success is Better When Measurable
Holding yourself accountable by setting measurable goals (monthly, quarterly, annually) will help you see how you perform and be a driver for success. When you don’t set a measurable goal then you can’t track your performance towards your success effectively.
Knowing Your Worth
I strongly believe in asking for what you want. If you always settle for what’s handed to you, you never get what you truly desire. Hard work is often required; you don’t always get what you want it. If you ask for what you want, the worst someone can say is no. Don’t waste the opportunity though, if someone says no, you can follow up on the reasons behind a rejection and inquire on what it takes for that person to say yes for next time.
Being More Fearless
If you want to be successful, you can’t be afraid to do the work or fail. Great success requires risks. Anything worth having in life requires effort. Everyone hits a few bumps in the road, so don’t be afraid to go after what you want.
Success is Completely Different for Everyone
Some people define their life by having children, having a higher education and money. For example, when it comes to money, my sister taught me that wealth is not how much you make, but how well you save and grow it. Whatever type of success you are chasing, it’s ok to not want to follow social norms. People will tell you to do what they do because they have their own goals and often push theirs onto yours, but if it’s not your goal in life, ignore the noise. Greatness doesn’t come from following others.
Doing What You’re Great At and Finding Passion in It
A few months ago, I read that following your passionate wasn’t going to lead to success. Some people are passionate about things they are not particularly good at, but if you do what you’re good at and find ways to become passionate about it, you can be great at it and love it. Afterall, who doesn’t like to be told they are good at something. When you are good at something, you get positive feedback and when you become great at it, you might find out how much you love it.
Success Comes From Knowing When to Let It Go
Success is seeing what you have and love and building that up. It is also knowing what holds you back and setting it free. Holding onto things for emotional reasons can keep you from being successful.
Success Does Not Come From One Place
Success is never achieved on your own. Wherever you go and whatever you do, people help you along the way. Making selfish decisions and refusing to share keeps you from getting to the place you want to be more efficiently.
Drive & Adaptabiliity
You have to be driven to make choices and chase after the things you want. If you run into challenges, be adaptable and look for other ways that could improve the situation. If you get down over and over again and without making changes, you won’t learn or gain success.

This post is so true and inspirational. Success differs a lot. And we become more fearless too. Each and every point in this post is factual.
LOVED reading your thoughts on this Miki! I agree that accepting failure is so important and daring to do it anyways. Also that success is completely different to different people. That’s why I think it’s important to have your group of people to share success with within the area of your life. I mean some will understand the feeling of having a good article out there, whilst other won’t! I think celebrating your success is so important too. After all the hard work it’s okey to let yourself have a day off and just embrace the success. Have a lovely weekend Miki! Xx

I absolutely agree with everything you wrote. Success is different for everyone. It is about how we define it for ourselves. Sometimes we need to work hard and plan for success to happen and sometimes we need to learn how to let go and when to let go. It is all about finding balance.

This is such a lovely read, and I couldn’t agree more dear. Success indeed, differs from one person to another. And yes, adaptability is the most important thing. Reminds me of the quote “It’s not the strongest of species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It’s the one that is most adaptable to change” from Charles Darwin. That’s been my mantra for years now.

This outfit is so fun! I love the mix of prints.
It’s so hard to feel successful all the time. I think it totally helps to have set goals – usually when we reach them that’s when we feel successful. But then we need to set new goals because as humans we are never satisfied with the status quo. I think it’s good to always be striving for more or better, as long as it’s for healthy and happy reasons.

A wonderful post Miki and thanks so much for sharing, a very inspiring read this Friday! Success for me is a combination of things from inner happiness, health, quality family time, as well as having a roof over my head and stability. Most importantly, doing something I absolutely love 🙂

Oh you look so cool in this fun look! Oh that gorgeous bag you had in Paris! Yes success is a loaded word for sure. And yes it does mean different things to different people. Success can be a struggle for sure. And not even starts at the same place. You can just take a quick look at the White House for an example of that! Wink wink.
