I love going to day spas, especially ones with extra perks like water therapies and dining options. It’s a great way to splurge and pamper yourself when you have worked hard and need a break.
During our road trip across the US, Tom and I decided to have a couples massage for our 6-month marriage anniversary. We found an amazing promotion that included lunch and champagne with the day spa experience at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Spa, so we booked it immediately. According to USA Today, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess has been awarded Five Diamonds by AAA for 19 consecutive years (as of 2010); its Willow Steam Spa was voted one of the best in North America by “Travel + Leisure” magazine. Since we just visited the Grand Canyon and were passing through visiting family, this was perfect for us.
Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Spa Resort has a co-ed small heated outdoor pool on the main floor and a large outdoor pool upstairs where you can sunbathe. Tom and I are used to going to spas that offer water therapies that are co-ed. The steam rooms, lounge areas are not co-ed, so that’s the only downside if you’re a couple wanting to do everything together.
I took my time enjoying the water therapies, steam room and pools. When I felt tired, I laid on the indoor day beds and flipped through magazines, sipped flavored water and snacked on mixed nuts to replenish. I was pretty much on heat, replenish, rest and repeat.
Their bathrooms had feminine products, clean hair brushes, robes, towels and body creams. One of my favorite things about this spa is the Eucalyptus sprays they leave in the shower. When you get enough steam up in the shower, you spray it into the corner and the lovely aromatic scent drifts up and it wafts around. It smells divine and is like sitting in a steam room with Eucalyptus oils floating in the air. It’s a really wonderful way to end your experience at the spa. It took every ounce of me to not buy it.
We’re looking at our next spa trip soon. Have you had an amazing spa experience somewhere? Or, is there a destination spa you’d love to try? I’d love to hear. 🙂

Yeah, this hotel was really pretty and even outside of the spa, they had a gorgeous ice skating rink and fantastic dining options. 🙂

I’ve never been to a spa, but I can clearly see the benefits from it. Basically, it’s just an amazing way to de stress and just be away from the rest of world pampering ourselves however we want to. Hopefully one day I can get myself on this! It looks stunning and I love the pictures. I think for a 6 months marriage celebration, it’s perfect. Time alone with the husband is essential I imagine (I say imagine because I’m very much single).

You’ll love your first spa experience. Keep an eye open for some deals when you’re ready to book one – especially if you get days off from work during the week – sometimes the price or spa packages are even better!
