It always feels like Summer where I live, so you know it truly has arrived when you fly out to a place like New York City and see the sakura (cherry blossoms) in full bloom all around the city. I’ve lived in Japan and have seen sakura bloom all around Kyoto and various cities around the country, but there’s something special about New York architecture combined with bursts of these pretty pink blooms that truly brought out the biggest smile to my face. To me, it’s the perfect combination of nature and city – it certainly makes my heart swoon. Seeing that the weather finally has warmed up, I have partnered with Banana Republic to show you how to wear some wonderful pieces this Spring!
You’ll never know how the weather will swing and a good layering piece carries us through the cooler Spring temperatures. There is something about white cotton that screams warm weather, sunny destinations and weekends at the sea. Wear the blazer over a beautiful dress, or pair it with a great set of trousers or shorts. White is so easy to work with – you can go monochromatic, sticking to black or/all white, or wear bolder colors. A white blazer is a fantastic Spring to Summer piece that will warm in the morning and at night when the temperatures are cooler. Inspired by the Spring into Poppy Red for Banana Republic, I wore my red baker cap and red paper bag top trousers. I usually love to wear heels all around the city, but Soho has a lot of cobblestone so I’ve opted for flats.
As mentioned in a prior post, from last Fall, purple continues to be one of the hottest colours of the year. “Prince” purple (as many have called it) and lilac happen to both be on trend, so it’s a great time to go monochromatic mixing varying purple shades. You’ll have seen me wear the pastel trend mxing a lilac top here and all-purple outfits here and here. If you’re not sure how to wear the color, pair lilac with a monochromatic (white or black) or the same colour family (in this case, purple on purple) and you’ll never go wrong!
