Accepting Life’s Adventure

Miki Phoenix Hole in Rock

I used to be a crazy perfectionist, planning my day out in detail, fitting everything and everyone in, leaving little room for some much needed R&R. On this road trip, and on many of our trips together, I let myself take a step back and let my husband  Tom plan and point us in the right direction.  His carefree, live-in-the-moment outlook in life is something I admire so immensely – something I’m still learning how to do.

On a day in Phoenix, Tom suggested we take a trip to look through a hole in the rock. I pretty much raised my eyebrow, but as usual, I was game.

I put on a pair of flat sandals after being told there was a path that was easy to walk along. So there I was, walking up in this beautiful long deep blue pleated skirt next to people who were dressed in trainers and hoodies. Imagine that.

When we approached the top, the view got better and better. When we were done, we went to the botanical garden, which to our disappointment was closed for an event. We still got to see some cool glass plants by a well-known artist.

We finished the night binging on delicious quesadillas, burgers, a chocolate peanut butter waffle and ice cream during sunset. It really was perfect.

If it weren’t for Tom, I’d be busy planning everything in detail. He grounds me, takes in every moment and lives in the present. He’s adventurous and his happiness is contagious. Life is refreshing with him. If you have a friend or a loved one like this in your life, take a step back and see the world through his/her eyes. It can be adventurous, fascinating and so beautiful.

If you enjoyed these pictures or his post, comment below. I’d love to hear about some of your own favorite adventures, or funny fashion situations, as I have experienced.

    I’d love to visit Phoenix!
    Beautiful pictures!

As for road trips… I love the thought of it but when somebody pops the idea I’ll be like “I don’t know…”. I also tend to plan too much and never do anything!

Well, I also trying to be more relaxed. 🙂 Not easy for me, though.

Yeah, it’s so hard to be laid back sometimes, especially when you want to cover a lot of ground. 🙂 I hope you’ll get to travel to some beautiful places this year 🙂 Thanks!!

Wow your pictures are amazing and paint a thousand words. It can be so hard to let go of control, I understand this as I’m very structured in my day-to-day life too, but then I also know the peace it brings to let someone else handle it all too.

How I’d love to go to Phoenix. It looks so gorgeous (although I have to admit, food always gives me even more reasons to go to a place). I think it’s wonderful that you have someone in your life that allows you to live in the present as opposed to just plan plan plan and then never really enjoy what you’re doing. Sometimes we forget to be here, and to be happy where we are.

I love your whole outfit too. So jealous you own Alexander Wang!

I hope you find an awesome deal and visit, too. You’ll be close to the Grand Canyon, which will be totally worth visiting too!
Yeah, old habits die hard. Still not easy, but I’m learning! 🙂 Thanks Ella!

    Hi Miki!

I could relate to what you said about planning! I love planning my trips in detail and recently I learned that it might be okay to take it easy so to speak. Don’t get me wrong.. I still like planning but it is nice to just explore and see where the wind takes you! It’s so wonderful you get to travel with your husband! Sounds like fun!

I do love your outfit in the post by the way! I feel like it goes well w/ the beautiful natural backdrop! Recently, I went to Joshua Tree and I wish I had a cute outfit on rather than my workout clothes because the backdrop was just gorgeous! One can dream for next time 😉

Hi Crissy! 🙂 Haha, thanks for the sweet comment and for stopping by! I was thinking how crazy in a maxi skirt going up this hill, but you don’t come this far to turn around and skip out on a great view, right? 🙂 I’ve never been to Joshua Tree. Sounds cool. I’ll have to check it out!! 🙂
