12 Essentials to Pack in Your Carry On When You Travel

March 20, 2017

Essentials for Your Carry OnIf you follow me on Instastories on Instagram, you’ll see that 2 weekends ago, I returned to San Diego and last weekend I flew out to Minnesota for the weekend, got my fill of snow, saw a specialist for my ongoing shoulder problem and came straight home. This time around, I’m hitting the road for an overnight stay in Las Vegas. I thought it was time to share with you 10 things I always keep in my travel bag/carry-on whether I’m flying or going on a road trip.

12 Essentials for Your Carry OnTravel Fashion BloggerRuffle Bomber Jacket Fashion Blog

I wore this outfit 2-3 weeks ago, but wanted to share the links incase you’re interested in picking up these pieces:

12 Essentials I Always Leave in my Carry On When I Travel

1) Power Bank with 2 USB cords – I always make sure it’s fully charged before I go and when I come back, it gets fully charged so that It’s ready for my next trip.

2) Avene Facial Spray or Caudalie Facial Spray – Either of these keep my skin hydrated while in transit.

3) Ipad Mini with pre-downloaded magazines/books prior to departure. My bluetooth keyboard is also charged and ready for use incase I end up working while I’m in transit.

4) Snacks – Okay, I’m cheating here because these don’t technically stay in my bag, but my house is often stocked with snacks, so I throw a couple of treats into a ziplock bag, or add a couple of snack bars in my bag every time I fly or go on a road trip

5) Earphones  for movies in flight or music on the road

6) Eye Mask because I am always napping in flight or in the car.

6) Antibacterial Hand Wipes to remove impurities/makeup on the face. Also for before and after touching food.

7) Phone & Charger pre-loaded with details on accommodations, addresses and any itineraries that I need to see related to my travels.

8) Medications/Vitamins – I always take my vitamins, antacids, allergy medication and ibuprofen with me incase I need it.

9) Travel-sized Beauty Bag – Make up remover, moisturizers, TSA approved small bottles of skincare products and a contact case always come with me. I hate to sleep with makeup on.

10) Toiletries such as toothbrush & toothpaste

11) Mints or Gum to help me manage air pressure changes in altitude during take-off or landing. Also great for when you land to have fresh breath.

12) Pen – Usually used for customs forms, but even on a drive I don’t bother removing it from my bag because from time to time I need it. However, I remove the inflatable neck support pillow when I am not flying.

Additional Items I keep on the side if I am planning to fly:

Power Converter for international destinations
Passport for Flights
Socks for all those cold moments in flight
Inflatable Neck Pillow for all those naps I take in the air
Silicone Ear Plugs to block out the noises while I’m sleeping on the plane

What are things you always keep in your carry on when you travel?

A good moisturiser Amy, just bring a sample sized one with you, works wonders. A lip balm also!

Same here. I like one with rosewater or oils usually. I feel they are often more hydrating! 🙂 Thanks Amy!

A great post! I barely sleep on planes so I don’t really bother with an eye mask anymore however I’m totally with you on the socks. I brought bed socks with me on the flight because it really does get ever so cold on flights.

Facial wipes are always great, following with a good face cream and lip balm as skin gets so dehydrated.

Snacks are a must have and mints for sure.

Sugar free sweets (or just regular ones) too to keep sugar levels up, often find I can get a bit light headed on planes.

    Great post!

I hardly ever use the eye mask on the plane, but I use it a lot when I arrive. I love gluten free snacks for flights. 🙂 Have a great week Laura!

Love these travel essential tips. Perfect timing on this post as I am about to fly international and the inflatable pillow is such a great idea. I hate to carry a lot through the airport so inflatable is genius ! I always carry chargers for my electronics, gum and snacks. Also love the jacket, so fun and chic !

My carry on list is actually really similar! Can’t leave without them snacks though… I usually cannot stand plane food so I need to bring my own! That white suitcase is so sleek though, love it!

  • Thomas Falkenstedt March 23, 2017 at 3:25 pm

The inside of our bags is basically identical, with the difference that after all this flying around I do, I yet haven’t bought myself an inflatable pillow, something I tell myself I should do every time I fly, but then again, I fall asleep the plane even lifts so and the next time I think about it is when I sit in the plane seat. Actually I’m sitting in one right now typing this, so for once I’m not asleep, haha. I wouldn’t add anything to that list really, except maybe for an intercontinental flight I might add a nice blanket 🙂

If I could, I’d pack cashmere PJ’s, eye mask and blanket! lol If you take long haul flights, the inflatable neck pillow is highly recommended! Thanks Thomas!

OMG those suitcases are so glam! Love the black band detail. And your embroidered jacket is gorgeous! You have such great travel style. I’m trying to get better about packing healthier snacks, or any snacks before I go to the airport. I always end up at the candy store which is no good.

It’s taken me a few years to figure out “essentials” to pack in a carry on instead of everything I own…haha. I recently went to Dallas for a day and my luggage was so light! I didn’t think I could ever do it, but I did. These are some great essentials to have. Saving this list for next time!

    • miki April 5, 2017 at 2:44 pm

That’s awesome. Unless we end up travelling a lot and realize we don’t need certain things, we always over pack. Having flown at least once a month for quite some time, i had to narrow it down and this is the must-list. 🙂 I hope it’s helpful to you. 🙂
