Day Trips from Paris

January 30, 2017

Travel Style BloggerAudrey Hepburn once said Paris is always a good idea, and I couldn’t agree more. Travelling to this beautiful city is never bad, even in the coldest month of the year. The beautiful architecture, delectable food and fashion are all things that can make any heart flutter. I can almost feel the confidence in the steps of the most stylish as they stride by while people watching seated at a café with a hot cappuccino and pastry.

My first visit to Paris started late in my life, about 10 years ago. It was then that I had my first dessert crepe on the street outside of North America. It was also when I made my first Alexander McQueen purchases, and to this day, I still have possession of the them. My best memories are related to food, architecture and fashion. I’d always wanted to travel to the South of France, drive along the coast, get to some beautiful wineries and see more. If you desire to see a little more of France outside of Paris, I’ve included a list of fantastic day trips that are worth travelling for.

Giverny
This little normandy village is bursting with beautiful floral landscaping. Here, you can visit infamous impressionist painter, Claude Monet’s home where he often sat and was inspired by his beautiful garden that had a Japanese inspired bridge and lily pond.

Normandy
This city is perfect for the history buff and those who appreciate great views and landscapes. This is located in Northern France. Based on Rail Europe, “You can either travel into Caen or Bayeux. Both cities are also within easy reach of each other, and each offers its own historical bounty. From Paris (St. Lazare train station) to Caen is 1hour, 47minutes, and Bayeux is 2 hours, 4 minutes on board the Intercities trains.”

Reims
If you love a celebratory sparkly drink and architectural history, Reims is the place to visit. The birthplace of Champagne, Reims has some of the most beautiful historic buildings, including cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A perfect place for champagne tastings and purchases of a couple of bottles to bring home, you can be sure you won’t be short of good food, architecture and sparkly beverages here. Travel from Paris to Reims by train can be as short as 40 minutes, or as long as about 1.5 hours.

Loire Valley
If you are more of a wine lover, and seeking out a day trip for wine tastings, visit Loire Valley where you’ll get a wide range of wines. While you’re there, visit Chateau de Villandry. It is so beautiful, you’d think you were walking into a fairytale.

Disneyland
If you don’t live in the US or more of a foreign traveller, you might not be close to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida or Anaheim, California. On my last trip years ago with family, we planned on going with my niece, but never checked that one off the list. I’ve only been to the one in Tokyo a few times, but if you’re a child deep down, it’s worth visiting. A local train in Paris will take you there within the hour.

Château de Versailles
The Château de Versailles (Palace of Versaille) is famous for its grand size, architecture and place in monarchy. The interiors are incredibly opulent and the garden grounds are enormous. Here, you can also visit Marie Antoinette’s quarters. It is definitely worth the day trip. If you really want to see the palace, reserve the entire day. The grounds are gorgeous and picturesque, so bring your camera and make sure it’s fully charged this day. It’s less than 1 hour from the centre of Paris. Directions available here.

Palace of VersaillesChateau de VersaillesChateau de Versailles JardinFountain at VersaillesPink Faux FurZara Pink Check Coat Fashion Style BlogZara Pink Check CoatDay Trips from ParisTravel Fashion BlogOn my first visit to Paris a decade ago, I visited the Chateau de Versailles and remembered the opulence of each room filled with velvet curtains, paintings and plenty of gold crown moulding and gold detailing all over the palace. I didn’t know how opulent a palace could be until I visit this space way back in the day. For this trip, I returned with Tom. The grounds are immensely large and the weather was frosty, so we only spent a few hours outside strolling the gardens. On this day, I wore a red check coat with a pink removeable fur collar over a leather jacket. The shoulders are a bit small on a XS, so I went up to size M so I could layer when it’s cold, as it was in Paris. I also love these flat studded boots. They are about 1/2 size smaller than the usual true to size, so if you’re usually 38 or 38.5, take a 39. I walked around them all day and had no problems or feet soreness. Finally, I wore this Gucci bag I travel with the most, since it comes with a removeable shoulder strap and fits my camera.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Have you been to Paris? If you’re headed to Paris soon, or have been on a great day trip outside of Paris, I’d love to know where in the comments below!

I’ve been to Paris quite a few times now and I can’t second these day trips more, especially Versailles! It’s so good when you go to Versailles early and there aren’t that many people in line so people don’t get in your photos!! Love this post!

As a kid I guess I didn’t appreciate those types of things as much. But I definitely want to go again one day soon. People always recommend Euro Disney so it must be extra special over there! Oh sweetie. Reading this on a gloomy and gray Sunday made me so happy. I love Paris so much and although it’s only been two months since I last was there and I’ll be there in June again, seeing these pictures made me so happy. If there is one thing I love, it’s Versailles. That is the most beautiful building in the world and with all history associated to it (Marie Antoinette anyone?) it’s just a place that makes your imagination go wild! I actually have been to both Disney World in Florida and Disney Land in Anaheim, but have never made it to EuroDisney (as it was called back in the days it opened, yup, I’m that old, haha).
