Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2022 Highlights

March 8, 2022

After a short week in Paris, I’m rounding up some of the highlights from my trip to Paris Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2022.

Just as I landed, I immediately rushed to the hotel to get ready for the Ottolinger Runway Show. I expected it to be physical attendance with a completely digital show. While it started with an impressive digital video (you can find it here), it followed with models strutting through the room with the Fall/Winter 2022 runway looks. This is the perfect translation to what is happening with the world of Bitcoin and metaverse, where the population is physical, yet transitioning more to an online universe.

OTTOLINGER

Ottolinger’s Fall/Winter 2022 Collection features retro-futuristic silhouettes, exaggeraged shapes, cut outs, shearling ropes, extra-long trousers, oversized boots and statement outerwear. There are a lot of knitwear and layered pieces that fit more organically, draping off the body, and rejecting typical sex appeal, almost as a way of communicating that this is the way of the future.

ALTER 22

“Alter is a floating oxygen bubble. It evolves, fluid and minimal. Sheltering a hybrid community, embracing nature and its elemints. The lines merge and fuse in a virtuous circle. Luxuriant and timeless.”

The 22 collection, imagined in a dystopian universe, is an incentive to reflect on our way of life in interaction with nature. It invites us to stop and think about the future we wish to create, about the new forms of social interactions in harmony with the biosphere. It reveals a utopia where nature has taken over, and where humans are forced to adapt and respect it.

MAISON ULLENS

Maison Ullens is actively involved in limiting the exploitation of natural resources and have committed to no longer using plastic. Maison Ullens is made of all wool and cashmere. The cashmere yarns come from Inner Mongolia in Central Asia. Each and every piece feels soft to the touch, and for FW22, Ullens has been inspired by travel, with some the pieces being reversible.

GAUCHERE

This season, Marie-Christine Statz staged the Gauchere Fall/Winter 2022 collection under the arcades along Rue de Rivoli. The collection consisted mostly of minimalistic pieces, strong shoulders, paired down in color to shades of beige, brown, burgundy, black and navy. There were strong shoulders, cut-outs and voluminous pieces, including a beautiful, fluffy textured dress.

SHOWROOM & PRESENTATIONS

SITUATIONIST

The latest collection remains true to designer, Irakli Rusadze. The Georgian brand introduced denim into his designs for the first time, and focuses on local production with dead-stock materials. To be respectful of the hard times, the collection is paired down, and smaller, yet inpactful.

ATELIER SPIGA 50 PRESENTATION

In the ballroom of Four Seasons George V Hotel in Paris, Atelier Spiga 50 presents its Fall/Winter 2022 collection highlighting the leather and workmanship of Italian crafstmen Inspired by red carpet, you’ll find beautiful coats sequin and scalloped embroidery detail on leather.

PATOU

For Fall/Winter 2022, Guillaume Henry focused heavily on sportswear. Logos seemed to appear on hats, bags, boots and jackets. Materials are mostly made up of upcycled and organic materials. The most noticeable colors in the collection are navy, lilac and black.

Barbara Bui

The presentation starts off with video of models moving and dancing artistically to the beat in the latest collection. For this season, you’ll see beautiful knits, blouses, trousers and cashmere blend outerwear. Pops of bright hues of purple and blue stand out, and each piece is thoughtfully incorporated and beautifully made. There’s a level of luxury, versatility and timelessness in Bui’s designs. The accessories are leather, and complement the collection beautifully. The night collection features asymmetrical necklines and true to Bui’s aesthetic inspired by rock ‘n roll.
