In the fashion world, Paris holds the crown to sharing many top-tier luxury and emerging brands. There is a little bit of je-ne-sais-quoi when it comes to Parisian labels, and also in some of the brands that present their collections there; many of which are timeless, modern, strong, and sustainable in many ways. There is longevity in their work and processes, often creating timeless aesthetics and silhouettes. If there’s anything to say about the trends this season, it’s that we’re

moving towards designs that are more subtle sexy, modern and classy all-in-one. We want to see these brands with longevity because what is more timeless and sustainable than investment pieces that have you excited to wear years down the road from now. Below are FW23 Presentations from Paris Fashion Week.

Maison Ullens

A great marraige often consists of the balance and compromise between two true identities, and here we have just that. For the first time ever, Maison Ullens named a new Creative Director, Christian Wijnants, and he has struck a perfect balance between design and utility between the house and his own design aesthetic. Maison Ullens is known for staple pieces that are perfect for travel. Wijnants has come in and added new dimension, weaving knitwear. Also, injecting prints and bold colors in a small selection of pieces within the collection. Overall, the pieces are luxurious; some reversible and even extremely limited in production.

Minuit 00-00

Upon entry at the cocktail presentation is a film that captures the essense of the latest collection. Similar to the prior season, there are special processes in production for various pieces to increase the longevity of the pieces, including keeping sequins securely on the fabric. You’ll find more metallics, some great chain and grommet details for a unique edge, and strappy tops. Transparency still a strong play in the collection. Below the video:

Gender lines are blurred and any person who appreciates androgenous style will love the strong shoulders and flowy shapes. The collection consists mostly of oversized, boxy shapes that include strong shoulders, ultra wide leg trousers.

HKFG

“Fashion Farm Foundation (FFF) is a non-profit organization established in 2012, founded by a group of enthusiastic fashion entrepreneurs and fashion educators in Hong Kong. Aiming to build a synergy among Hong Kong-based fashion designers, cultural practitioners, industry experts and retailers, FFF pledges to promote Hong Kong’s fashion design by encouraging and fostering collaborations between the business, lifestyle, educational and cultural sectors.” Below are a few images of the designer collective’s pieces for Fall-Winter 2023 season.

Alexis Mabille

For FW23, I had the pleasure of meeting the Haute Couture designer this season who walked me through his beautiful 15-piece collection. Inspired by the woman who celebrates life and enjoys dressing to the nines, Mabille has created elegant gowns. The colors in this collection are vibrant sorbet colors in orange, tangerine, rose, blues. These would make a statement at the dinner table, and if you’re ready to step out for a sunset dinner in a full skirt, one of these might be perfect for you. There is simplicity in the work, but immense volume that allows the wearer make a statement at any event, sunset dinner or celebration.

Jitrois

Known for its advanced treatment of leather, Jitrois’ collection of leather pieces flaunts signature laser lace cutouts and zippered dresses that can be detached and worn as separates. Functional and versatile is the name of the game, and Jitrois comes with aces. A dress with sleeves can be unzipped and removed to become sleeveless. The punk-inspired collection also includes a gorgeous vinyl peplum leather jacket that is specially treated to avoid the crunchy sound that many of us are so awkwardly familiar with. The stretch leather pieces are lightweight and buttery to the touch, and any person would feel sexy in the structured, form-fitting and you know you’re in the presence of true luxury.
