The snow is falling down in New York as I take a ride through the wintry white landscape and I immediately think of Christmas trees, holiday music, crackling fireplaces, the smell of cinnamon wafting through the air, sharing some laughs with my closest friends and clinking our glasses to celebrate all the wonderful memories we’ve made this past year and encourage each other to do incredible things for the year to come.
There is no better way to sweeten up the holidays than surrounding yourself with people you love, so of course, I booked a trip back to Florida and met up with up with my good girlfriends to enjoy a festive get together. With the holiday madness, it’s easy to get swept up in a long list of to-do’s. Below are some tips on how to enjoy your holiday without the stress.
5 Ways to Sweeten Up Your Holiday this Season
Hosting a Festive Get Together
Holiday gatherings are the perfect excuse to dress up and enjoy the company of your closest friends. Having moved further north recently, I was thrilled to get together with some of my favourite girlfriends. If you’re like me and don’t know what to bring to party, you can never go wrong with bringing a few bottles wine. One of my favourites to reach for is Roscato. This fizzy red wine from Lombardy, Italy is irresistible, delicately sweet, and great as an aperitif or with food, especially spicy or tomato-based meals. It has the perfect balance of sweet and dry. Is there really anything better than catching up with friends, reminiscing about the past year and clinking glasses to all the wonderful things in the year to come?
Paying it Forward
As the evening went on, Nikki, Sasha and I spoke about giving back. Many often believe material gifts are the best, but the special moments are ones that stay with us forever. Paying others a compliment, holding the door, offering a smile or hugs are just a few easy things that sweeten up the holidays for others. I personally love to volunteer at toy drives and while chatting with Nikki over our Roscato, I discovered she was going to one this season, I was so excited to jump on board.
Creating and Easy, Yet Perfect Holiday Mood
The holidays are absolute madness, am I right? There is so much going on, but sweetening up the season with a tree, cinnamon-scented candles, holiday music and some decorative snacks and a balanced wine really puts me in the festive mood!
Simple & Delicious Food to Pair
I must admit that I love to host, but preparing food together and cooking while guests arrive is a challenge. Most of the time, I really just have wine like this Roscato as an apertif, but in cases where we know guests will stay for more than a couple of hours, throwing together something that isn’t overly complicated like a tomato-based chicken pasta makes a great wine pairing. The best part is you can focus on your guests and don’t have to be in the kitchen non-stop. To sweeten up your holiday for both you and your friends, keep it simple!
Adding More Sparkle
Adding your own twist to a party can be really fun, and us girls like to dress up together. Sparkle was the holiday theme for us girls, so we all decided to wear sequin dresses for our small dinner get together. We had such a good time catching up and the evening ended with us girls seated, under the dress tree polishing off the last of our sparkly wine.
It’s such a blessing to have moments like these with people you love. Cherish them, laugh, hug and snap a few photos you can fondly look back on.
