When wandering through the streets of Nassau, Bahamas, I couldn’t help feeling enamoured the entire time. I mean, sure I was in a beautiful, dreamy spots in the Carribean, but the pastel pink, yellow, blue, green and orange buildings were so eye catching; it felt like a celebration of life and pure joyfulness. A Bahamian driver described the homes of their people as being as colorful inside as it was on the outside.
Nassau during the day seemed like such a stark contrast to what it was at night. The hustle and bustle of visitors and locals filled the city with life. As the clock struck 5, the shops steadily closed and the city resided in a serenity that was so calm you wouldn’t even know you were walking through the same streets had it not been for the pretty pink buildings.
My skin welcomed the hot humid air and the sound of the water hitting the walls of the pier. We ventured out on a leisurely stroll towards Cafe Matisse for our dinner reservations.
Life, as they say, is an adventure. We live for moments from ziplining through Thailand, snorkeling in the clearest of waters in Maldives, venturing through World Heritage Sites like Yakushima, Japan, Prambanan and Borobodur in Indonesia, even as simple as an evening stroll through a quiet foreign city.
Tom and I took in the pretty pastel buildings and the pretty blue skies. We indulged in Bahamian cuisine in celebration of our anniversary, which funny enough has taken place before we’ve even had our honeymoon.
The fish is so fresh, people are so kind and local flavours so delightful. We decided to take a night stroll back towards The Bullion at the Hilton Hotel where I sipped on one of best drinks I’ve had in a long time and closed the evening cozying up on the cool leather tufted Chesterfield sofa swaying to the sound of a soulful Jazz musician with an incredible voice.
Life was perfect and I wasn’t prepared to leave it all behind.
