How to Style a Pleated Accordion Skirt

Life is all about having a bit of fun and often I associate that with a little glimmer and shine. For years, I was obsessed with silver accessories – layering rings and wearing asymmetrical earrings, and in the last couple of years I really paired that down. Thrilled about the pleated skirt and metallics making a huge comeback, I took to this fun statement skirt.

Having spent much of my time in Italy while transitioning to Fall, I haven’t really had a chance to wear anything suited for cooler weather. It doesn’t get cool in the day or night here and How To Dress Like It’s Fall in 34°C/90°f just doesn’t seem like a topic we’re all itching to hear about, you know what I mean? (Don’t worry. I haven’t even attempted to pursue that one!)

When I go away for long periods of time I like to pack light, so I can move from city to city without dragging around a heavy bag around. I usually make a point of making the bulk of my purchases in the last city or final leg of my trip.

It’s been incredibly hard to walk by shops skipping things I know I’d purchase, but with the end of my trip quickly approaching I’ve been able to snatch up this metallic pleated skirt.  There have been so many amazing accordion pleated skirt options in various colours available for Fall. I have been wearing tons of summery pieces for the last 2 months that have been itching for a Fall statement piece. Of course, I didn’t want to return home discovering the shortest set of words of a style blogger’s horror story – sold out! – so, I picked up an item I really wanted.

There are a couple of ways I’d wear a metallic pleated skirt, so I thought I’d share my favourite 2 styling options with you below.

1) Tee or Cami with Minimalist Heels & Fun Bag

My tee already had a very casual feel to it, and I wanted to keep the outfit simple, so I wore these silver metallic Versace strappy heels to match so they wouldn’t steal the show. I kept jewelry minimal, and with my top being completely white, I tied it in the front and pulled the knot in to create some interest. And since my top was just a solid color, I thought I’d have a little fun adding this runway-inspired bag with a floral applique strap.

2) Sneakers, Jean Jacket, Graphic Tee

When wearing a bold colour or a metallic one as I am, a simple sneaker with a fun tee that has tiny but of detail like a catch phrase or graphic is a nice touch. I would wear this outfit with white sneakers on a regular basis. Paring down a pleated skirt is easy with a jean jacket.  I love the look of patches right now, so having a patched jacket or graffiti shoe can be really fun. Choosing 1 graphic and statement item is manageable, but when you overdo it with graphics on shoes, jacket and tee while wearing a statement skirt it can come off looking like too much.
