When I was in university, I bought a lot of classic pieces – silk dress shirts, wide leg dress pants, boots, heels, blazers… well, the list goes on and on. This was the beginning of my building a closet full of staples. I wasn’t always able to afford brand names, but I would pair low priced items with really nice, quality staple pieces I had purchased for my closet. My binge on classic items was a style transition in life, and maybe this happened because I was preparing to get out into the real world to find work. Over time, I went on to mix and match them with new and less serious and fun additions.
I am a huge fan of fringe and lace, and wanted to wear this skirt out for the day. I could have worn this with a really cute top, but loved the idea of being business up top and party on the bottom today. It makes a serious piece more fun, especially when you’re going somewhere more on the conservative side like I was today. While the skirt is like an extension of a classic black pencil skirt, it has a lot of personality. My husband always laughs when I wear fringe because It makes me want to twist and sway. Can you blame me? It makes me feel feminine and it’s a ton of fun to wear. It can’t hurt that it’s really pretty and eye-catching!
I own a couple of fringe skirts, but love that the fringe layers over the lace. I also kept it monochromatic to bring the attention to the skirt.
Do you own a piece that makes you move? Let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear! ♥
