It’s been a very busy week. Tom and I selected a new place to call home in this balmy, sunny city of LA. We went looking for a new place, packed up and moved just a few days later. Although we’re no longer living by the beach, Tom and I have decided to drive back to Santa Monica to take in the beautiful weather and start having regular weekend trips again.
With the last week and a half being so insanely busy, I’d been MIA from both fashion week and social media, and just completely missing out. I had to tell myself that I could just catch up when I get settled in. It’s good to remind ourselves to take breaks and just enjoy the moments we have to ourselves. To make sure I don’t lose track and stay on top of all of the things I want to do, I have a few good habits that help me get through the week.
Top 5 Tips on Staying Organized & Efficient
1) Make a To-Do List & Prioritize
I always have things swimming in my head and need to take each down so I can completely forget about the task until I need to address it. To stay organized, I prioritize action items that need the most attention and make them time sensitive for a specific date to keep myself accountable. Some things take longer to do, so if I want to order something and it needs to arrive by a specific date, I make sure I place the order for the goods to arrive at least a day in advance of the deadline.
2) Focus on the Bigger Picture & Accept that Everything Will Not Always Be Perfect
Finding efficient use of your time is learning that sometimes, very minor details that don’t impact the plan are worth letting go. Focusing too much on the things that are less trivial instead of seeing the bigger picture can really slow you down and stress you out, especially when you realize you’re running out of time.
3) Use Your Imagination & Think Outside of the Box
Sometimes what we want to have and achieve is not obtainable in the most typical way. For example, on my list, I need furniture for my fireplace, but I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars making it look amazing. I am not in a hurry to complete the space. It’s more important that I work within a budget and ensure that it is something I really love and so I have not made it top priority, but I’ve put things in motion so that I keep my eye open for a great deal. I signed up for notifications at vintage shops and sale notifications at local furniture stores and estate sales so that I can be on top of things without having to always think about it. Pinterest is also a great source for doing things the unconventional way. I absolutely love it.
4) Take Breaks & Reward Yourself
A great way to keep yourself motivated is to reward yourself when you’ve spent ample time checking off things on your task list. I may spend some time shopping online, read other blogs, take a steam shower, draw a bath, treat myself to some at-home pampering or enjoy a nice meal when I feel I’ve worked hard. Taking a break to still enjoy the things you do helps you feel balanced, refreshed and ready to conquer the next thing on your list.
5) Stay Positive & Surround Yourself with Things that You Enjoy
For some, it can be hard to look at your list and not feel overwhelmed. It can seem tedious to others. Make your environment inviting and surround yourself with things that make it easier for you to complete your tasks. When I need to be on my computer at home, I love sitting at a neat, cozy, yet lovely spot in my space with music, fresh flowers, a cup of coffee or tea, some snacks and in good light. If I can’t get natural light, having good light is important to help you stay alert. If I’m not at home, I am a sucker for cute cafès with good desserts and coffee or tea, too. If it’s not too loud and in a beautiful trendy spot where I can get to look up and people watch once in awhile, that’s a bonus!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this photos! Your shoes are amazing!!! And congrats on the move! It must be a hectic time for you so good job on blogging!
I really agree with #2 and #4! Those are things I definitely try to be mindful of when things get hectic. This year, post-it notes have been such a life saver! When I think of something I write it down and leave it on my computer screen or on my bathroom mirror. It’s been a great way to remind myself and I can always take it down when the task is complete (makes me feel more accomplished hahaha)!
