London Fashion Week SS18 Day 2 and 3

My second look for London Fashion Week was in part inspired by the metallic trend. Day 1 was a fantastic start and set the tone for my experience in this beautiful city. Today, I’m sharing my outfit details and favourite looks from each designer from Day 2 of London Fashion Week SS18.

Last February, I wore silver boots to Day 1 of New York Fashion Week, but I completely destroyed them wearing them trudging through the snow storm. I loved them so much and was felt compelled to get another pair of silver and glittery boot. These ones are so incredibly affordable and the chunky heel won me over. Knowing I had to stand on my feet for hours a day and run from site to site, and pair them with multiple outfits truly made them the perfect find.

On Day 2, I was fortunate enough to be invited to see a few shows and presentations, and felt so inspired by the designers. I have round up my favourite looks.

LFW SS18 COLLECTIONS

EDDA GIMNES

My first presentation for the day is none other than Merit Award winner, Edda Gimnes. New York Times has named her one of the 10 fashion school designers to watch. I had the great pleasure of speaking to the designer about her latest collection. Edda draws inspiration from 1950’s silhouettes and has a very feminine playfulness in her S/S ’18 Collection using oversized hats and gloves. The digital prints on the dresses were drawn with her non-dominant hand. Illustrations are created and then the pattern making came after. The illustrations make teal blue and mustard a winning combination here. EDDA also took the jewels from her handbags, scanned and printed them in full scale to create the pattern of one of the dresses. I am particularly in love with the boots and the illustrations on these dresses. Choosing a favourite here would be so difficult for me. 

KATIE ANN MCGUIGAN

Drawing inspiration from Perry Ogden and his photography and book Pony Kids, Katie’s masterfully created a stunning SS18 collection. Katie Ann McGuigan is not shy when it comes to mixing patterns and prints. Focusing primarily on secondary colors and prints, Katie presented a lot of beautiful separates and layers. Her looks are a great contrast of textures and each one of them as eyecatching as the last, as they made their way up and down the runway.

LUNYEE

With a great touch of sportswear, Lunyee reinforces that straps with names and logos are here to stay. Cold shoulders, exposed zippers, vinyl sports-inspired pieces took over the runway. The SS18 collection for Lunyee is so well accessorized, you’d want the earrings and bags as much as the clothes. Luggage/seatbelt-style straps with logos were eyecatching, and the silver ring jewelry and belts stood out, finishing each look perfectly. The designers, Saini Chan and Sophie Han’s collection is inspired by a surge in eco-activism. They focus on soft textures, asymmetry contemporary shapes and volume.

EDELINE LEE

Prior to attending London Fashion Week, I’d been to Toronto Fashion Week for almost a decade, and therefore have a soft spot for fellow Canadian, Edeline Lee. In her Spring Summer 2018, Edeline Lee draws inspiration from Georgia L’Keeffe and “when she first arrived in New Mexico on the heels of sorrow, and upon entering that beautiful, desolate country, realized she had to come home.” This combination of bold, yet fragile is expressed through her collection. Edeline showcased floral embellishments, handwritten letters on garments using quotes from O’Keeffe’s letters and statement sleeves. All of her pieces are handmade in various parts of Europe, including Italy, France, England and Scotland.
