Champagne Brunch at The Mission Inn

Life is full of so many wonderful experiences worthy of experiencing. In most cities, great brunch spots don’t take reservations have line ups out the door. Lucky for me, this weekend Tom surprised me with reservations to The Mission Inn. Voted as the #1 Best Historic Hotel by USA Today, The Mission Inn is very well known for their historical architecture, lovely courtyards and of course, their dining experience, including their champagne brunch.

The weather shot back to above 32°C/90°F, so I decided to wear a dress I picked up a couple of weeks ago and pair them with white jeans. A detailed lace dress with bell sleeves stood out from the closet. Chic and comfortable is perfect, especially when dining in a lovely space for a couple of hours indulging in savoury dishes and plenty of delicious desserts.

The Property
The Mission Inn is heavily influenced by various architectural and cultural influences around the world, including Italy, Spain, China and Japan. You’ll see a pagoda in one area, and beautiful fountains and pillars in another. There are lovely tiles and bougainvillea-covered out in the courtyard. They’re truly picturesque. It’s a great little spot to wander around. It rained, so unfortunately we didn’t see everything, but we admired what we could and greatly appreciated the elegant feel of the warm cozy interiors and juxtaposition of the lightness from the exterior. With Halloween and Thanksgiving around the corner, visitors could stumble upon pumpkins around the hotel grounds. Walking around meant it didn’t take us long before we were famished, so we headed to the dining room to get seated in a spacious room with really tall ceilings and cozy leather seats.

The Food
The moment we sat down, our waitress introduced herself and filled our glasses with water, juice and champagne. The buffet brunch is largest I’ve had. The extensive menu ranges from seafood, such as ceviche, crab legs and shrimp, to typical breakfast fare items including pancakes, waffles, hash browns, applewood smoked bacon, eggs benedicts and custom omelettes. They have an entire table dedicated to ham, cheese, breads and crackers and multiple tables for hot lunch items such as prime rib steak served the way you like, baked salmon, stuffed chicken and of course, a really large dessert table to close out the entire dining experience. Needless to say, we were stuffed at the end.

The Experience
We both enjoy fine dining, but also love checking out dives with amazing food. Tom and I have been lucky enough to have had a few champagne brunches around the world, and this is definitely one of the best experiences we’ve had. It helps that the staff was attentive and the chefs did a great job preparing the food.

Recommendations
Book reservations, as they won’t take walk ins. When doing the champagne brunch, get waffles topped with maple syrup and add fresh berries and creme fraiche. They were delicious. For the main, if you like prime rib or baked salmon, definitely go for these. Finish off with bread pudding, chocolate dipped strawberries and cinnamon rolls. After the meal, walk off all the food and stroll around the grounds to admire the courtyard and grounds. It’s a lovely properly with little courtyards and lovely architectural elements. Finally, dress up and have fun!
