Rahul Mishra Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2020 Collection Paris Fashion Week

Rahul Mishra SS20

My first runway show with Rahul Mishra happened at the tail end of fashion month for me in Paris two years ago and it was one of the most beautiful and memorable ones of the season. To this day, I have been a huge fan of his detailed work, and this season I had the pleasure of seeing the Spring / Summer 2020 collection hit the runway.

One of the biggest emerging trends is our desire to support more handcrafted work with less environmental impact, and long-lasting pieces. In this collection Rahul Mishra explored volume with flat embroidered motifs, focusing more on slow-fashion, building a socially sustainable model to showcase the strong craft community of rural India.

Using his designs and application in a translation of everyday life of moving from worklife in a box to the little garden in the yard, the little flower patches reflect the reality of modern living. The details are so intricate in person, and some pieces took as long as 3400 hours to make. They are light as air considering the thousands of buildings perched on delicate organza or countless hand embroidered flowers confectioned in tulle. The looks move so beautifully. If you haven’t already seen them in action, check out my Instagram video post.

The stunning petal detail adds so much movement and is light on the body.  I adore the application of craft used in rural India in these feminine, modern silhouettes. See the entire collection below.

I love the placement and thoughtful details in this collection. As a former fashion designer, I can totally understand the amount of work that must have gone in some of the pieces, especially the manually sewn application pieces. <3
