Paris Fashion Week and Runway Trends for Fall 2019

March 12, 2019

Fashion month for Fall 2019 had come to an end! I’m so grateful I got to catch a couple of shows and presentations in Paris. Below, I’m sharing some of the latest collections I got to see from Paris and I’m rounding up some of the trends you can expect to see as we lead into Fall 2019.

Shiatzy Chen
I consider it really special when I get to see a designer two seasons in a row up close and personal. Shiatzy Chen presented her Fall 2019 collection named “Guardian” and some of the key details she repeats on various models are ones to keep your eyes out for as winters must-haves. Inspired by the tradition in which mothers use to carry babies, Chen transforms the heritage cloth material and injects a modern edge. Models came down the runway in combat boots and harnesses. Towards the end of the show, feminine tulle, and voluminous dresses had such approachability, effortlessness and ease with these key accessories while keeping in mind glamour and complexity.

Maison Mai
During the Presentation of Maison Mai, I had the pleasure of meeting the designer who professed her nlove of watching documentaries – the source of inspiration. For her latest collection she presents pieces that she felt reflected the dark and bright side of human behaviour of a film by a which a photographer who explored a village situated in poverty. The collection included detailed darting and pleats on shirts and shirt dresses focusing mainly on a neutral palette of beige, black, white and navy.

agnes b.
Designer agnes b. truly embodies the spirit of a free woman who isn’t afraid to do it all. The collection started off with the simplicity of Parisian chic, with plenty of midi-length hemlines and fitted jackets for women, and beautifully tailored and layered looks for the men which was perfect for daytime. As the show progressed, there was an air of ease and rebellion, where it felt like the mused could let her hair down and enjoy the night out. I was particularly taken with the printed his and her jackets at this part of the show. Towards the end, couples danced happily down the runway in really tailored and refined designs which would be great for a social or elegant cocktail.

Trends from Fashion Month

All Leather
One of the most refreshing trends that carries over into Fall 2019 are all-leather. A leather jacket is one I consider an essential for the closet. Just a few of my many favourites for PFW are below:

Checkerboard Pattern
Personally, I love this print more than plaid and decidedly went right ahead and wore a faux fur checkered coat to NYFW. Some notable checkerboard printed pieces can be seen below. I loved the look from Off-White. The print also took me back to Marc Jacobs show years ago for Louis Vuitton.

Feathers Everywhere
An ongoing trend has been feathers. You may have noted when I mentioned this trend in my outfit post from NYFW. You can incorporate this trend in apparel and accessories very easily for Fall 2019.

Bucket Hats
I first noticed this trend in YSL’s show in New York City and on every model walking Dior’s Fall 2019 runway show.

Winter Whites
I’m noticing a trend of s huge reduction in mixing extreme pattern and more to a cleaner palette so I wanted to highlight winter whites. While I enjoy wearing color, I actually love mixing and layering textures the most (something I couldn’t do much in Florida with over 30 deg celsius on a daily basis). In all the designers I listed above, you’ll have seen at least one neutral look. Here are some looks from the runway.
