New York Fashion Week SS18 Collections

October 8, 2017

The few days I spent in New York was so inspiring. There were tons of shows and events to catch, and I cannot express how incredibly grateful and blessed I feel to be invited to the shows. With so much happening during that period, I wanted to round up some of my favourites from each of the designers, Noon by Noor, Hakan Akkaya, Dan Liu, Francesca Libertoire and Leanne Marshall.

NOON BY NOOR
Noon by Noor’s SS18 collection includes various separates mixing more masculine pieces with feminine elements, such as wide leg trousers, tailored blazers and knitwear worn with ruffles, pleats, billowing sleeves and sheer fabrics. #noonbynoor #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger#noonbynoor #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger

The color palette for the collection includes red, soft white, rosebud pink, black, as well as ladybug and large floral prints. In collaboration with handbag designer Tyler Ellis, Noon By Noor created a 10 pc handbag capsule collection comprised of two styles a sleek Kelly Box and Lee Pouchet envelope clutch which helped complete the runway looks. For current season inspiration (FW17), check out my blog post from NYFW, which includes my favourite looks from Noon by Noor.

HAKAN AKKAYA
You can always expect to see edge from HAKAN AKKAYA. Taking influence from the idea of existentialism, the idea in which you make your own choices and choose your own destiny. The designer’s black and white SS18 uses dramatic proportions, and stays true to his aesthetic with a hardness to his design.#hakanakkaya #nyfw #trends #fashiontrends #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger#hakanakkaya #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger #trends #fashiontrends

I particularly love the striped jacket and boots in his collection. For fall season inspiration from Hakan Akkaya, visit my prior post from NYFW FW17 season looks

DAN LIU
A true artist, fellow Canadian, Dan Liu presented his SS18 Collection, which incorporated lace, pastel color, large graphic prints, appliques and crystal details. Known for his contemporary dresses, can designs with an eye for feminine and intricate details. Each model was adorned with peacock feathered eyebrows. Dan Liu is so incredibly multi-talented and artistic. “Feel the Breeze, Hear the Ocean, Be at Ease,” was the inspiration behind the collection and incorporates music that aligns so perfectly with the looks that come down the show.

FRANCESCA LIBERATORE
The show started out with a white, plunging neckline and the song Running Up That Hill. Flowy and sheer fabrics were some of my favourites in Francesca Liberatore’s SS18 collection. There’s a great level of delicateness in the lace detail of her work, and at times, makes you want to be sitting at the top of the coast or on a yacht at the Italian Riviera catching the sunset.  If we are following the lyrics of the song, this collection represents a young feminist who is quite vulnerable, yet strong willed. The 80’s seems to be a huge influence in this collection. During the show, Francesca showed us a mix of high and lower necklines. The models had a very natural dewy glow, and loose textured waves mostly slicked to one side and tied back into a loose ponytail. Where there were high necklines, they were ruffled or lace, and her use of lace work on plaid and solid fabrics were among some of the most beautiful in this presentation.#franancescalibertore #prints #lace #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger #trends #fashiontrends#franancescalibertore #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger #trends #blackandwhite #fashiontrends#franancescalibertore #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger #trends #lacedress #fashiontrends#franancescalibertore #nyfw #nyfwdesigner #nyfw17 #ss18 #newyork #fashionweek #runwayshow #trends #fashion #dresses #fashionblog #styleblog #blogger #blog #fashionblogger #trends #lacedress #fashiontrends

I particular love how she styled some of her pieces with these gorgeous oversized belts.

LEANNE MARSHALL
My healthy addiction to Project Runway introduced me to this winning designer many years ago, and I have absolutely adored her work since. This season, Leanne Marshall was inspired by the temporary walls put up all over the city during construction. These walls brough Leanne Marshall’s imagination into thinking what beautiful life would lie behind those windows – an escape into a paradise away from the hot and loud New York City life. Leanne Marshall opened her show with a deep emerald green dress, and later introduced yellow and seafoam green, pink and orange. From her colour choices to the way the fabrics floated down the runway, it felt as though she was sweeping us into a blissful utopian destination.

I love how the collection was presented on a variety or women of different shapes, sizes and backgrounds.Leanne Marshall’s SS18 collection had asymmetrical hemlines, endless flowy dresses, flattering trapeze silhouettes and a wonderful display of colour. Her finale piece was a myriad of the multiple colours she used in her collection with a watercolor effect. Beautiful.

If you’d like some Fall/Winter inspiration, see last season’s favourites by Noon by Noor, HAKAN AKKAYA  and Leanne Marshall.

Which are your favourites above? And if you could wear it anywhere, where would you wear it and why? I’d love to hear. I’ll be doing a round up of SS18 presentations and shows for Milan and Paris shortly. Don’t forget to check out my London Fashion Week Day 1 or Day 2 & 3 and let me know your favourites there as well!
