6 Great Desserts in New York City and Where to Have Them

It has everything I want from my home city of Toronto, but so much more amazing food options, entertainment, fashion, sites, activities, flight sales, larger transit system. I have been to The Big Apple more than a dozen times and funny enough, still have not covered a lot of the touristy spots, but I absolutely love coming across cute cafes and finding little parks and scenic spots to unwind and take it in. On this trip, I popped into a few Instagrammable spots and just some great places where you could just grab a pastry or little bite, maybe a drink or coffee and enjoy the scenery and people watch. The bonus? They are lovely places to snap a few photos.

Lady M at Bryant Park
I’d been to Bryant Park so many times, but this large open space is filled with tables and seats. In the Spring, the flowers are blooming all around. There is an outdoor bar where you can grab a drink, but if you want to sit under the lights, no purchase is necessary. At night, this place is buzzing with thousands of people and funny enough doesn’t feel crowded. There is so much seating, you won’t have a problem finding a spot. I recommend grabbing a couple of heavenly slices of mille crêpes cakes across the street at top-ranked dessert boutique, Lady M. Get a coffee at Blue Bottle or a drink at that outdoor bar, grab a seat by the carousel and garden and enjoy people watching and taking the city in.

Maison Keyser Croissants & Tarts at Central Park
A popular French bakery can be found right in New York. Eric Keyser expanded into New York as Maison Keyser. When I walked by, I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I popped into the one at the south side of Central Park. If you love a good tart or croissant and don’t mind that it’s a small chain, I recommend grabbing a few pastries and croissants to go to enjoy in Central Park!

Black Tap near 5th Avenue
You’ll have seen these amazing desserts in a mug on Instagram. I first saw these surfacing all over Australia, Asia and Europe. They have them in LA and Orlando, but each place make them differently. They are hugely popular in New York City and are worth checking out. If you’re shopping along 5th Avenue and headed towards Central Park, you might want to drop in for a dessert. If you have it in you, you can have it after Maison Keyser, but there’s also a lotion near the high end shops of Soho.

Wowfulls down the streets of Soho
These instagrammable egg waffles are stuffed with ice cream and finished with wonderful toppings. If you love those chinese egg waffles that taste as good as they look, pop by this Soho spot. It’s a very tiny spot that’s easy to miss. I got the special Dole collaboration one with pineapple dole whip and it was so refreshing. You can also build your own though. I can’t say there’s a fabulous park in the area, but you can take a seat here and indulge, or like me, take it with me to go. Just be warned that all eyes will be on you and your amazing dessert, and you might get stopped by people inquiring about your delectable dessert!

Juniors Cheesecake in Times Square or Eileen’s Cheesecake in Soho
If you’re visiting New York City, chances are Times Square is on your list of places to see. I happen to walk everywhere and always ended up walking by way too many times. If you are a high end cheesecake lover, go to Eileen’s Cheesecake in Soho, but if you just appreciate a good cheesecake that is creamy and tasty, try just a classic slice without the frills at Juniors is nice as you let the blaring billboard ads and lights take over your senses seated at the outdoor red tables in Times Square just near the M&Ms World.

Hibiscus Donut at Dough Doughnuts at Madison Square Park
On my trip last year, I popped into Dough Doughnuts and the bright pink donut immediately caught my eye. I’m not a fan of jelly, so I had to ask about it. It’s not filled. The donuts at Dough Doughnuts have a little more of a cake like texture which I really like. They have so many great donuts, so you may want to grab a few! Take a seat here or, like me, bring it with you to Washington Square Park. I took mine with me to Madison Square Park. While you’re there, Shake Shack’s serves a pretty decent burger and its original location can be found here. Plenty of park seating to go around and the area is lit up by hanging night lights in the evening. Cute fast food dinner at the park while on vacation? Check. Photo at the Flat Iron Building? Double check.

Headed to New York soon? Let me know if you have some spots of your own that you’d love to see. If you also have some of your own favourite places to go to in New York (or happen to live there) let me know your personal favourites in The Big Apple!

I really have not been to New York in ages … I want to go since it seems to offer everything. I have heard about the Shake Shack place from several NYC bloggers that I follow. The Lady M place sounds delightful, also because my friends call me that as a nickname. 🙂 x/Madison

They have Shake Shack where I live, but something about eating it at Madison Square Park under the lights in the evening is really nice. 🙂 Thanks Madison!!

OMG A dessert tour of NYC is such a good idea. I’m always seeing the latest dessert trends on Instagram and it makes me wish I live there too. But alas I lived there back in 2010 and it was a tough ride. For me, a visit is best 🙂

Definitely so much good food there. So many yummy places and many people are on the go and want to enjoy the summer weather, so I figured this might help kill 2 birds with 1 stone. 🙂 Thanks Jessica!
