5 Easy Tips to Living a Happier Life

They say that laughter and happiness is contagious. Holidays bring out the best in so many of us, but can also bring upon a lot of stress and unhappiness. Regardless of what time of year it is, there are a few key habits that can help you lead a happier life. I’m sharing my top 3 habits that have contributed to better living, less stress and best of all, more happiness.

Kenzo H&M Collaboration Fashion Bloggertop-tips-for-happiness5 Easy Tips to Living a Happier Lifetips-on-living-a-happier-life5 Easy Tips to Living a Happier Life5 Easy Tips to Living a Happier LifeKenzo H&M Collaboration Fashion Bloggerkenzo-hm-emporio-armani5 Easy Tips to Living a Happier LifeBeing True to Yourself

Choosing to focus on the things that you love and doing activities you enjoy the most is truly a great way to be happy.  There will be times people will invite you to do activities you don’t enjoy and it’s perfectly fine to say no. If you value those friendships, it’s more important to reciprocate and ask them to do things you both enjoy instead. Being true to yourself and doing more of the things you love will ultimately lead to finding friends who have similar interests.  Best of all, you’re not feeling like you’re wasting time or money on things that you don’t love.

Compliments & Random Acts of Kindness

One of the best, and in my opinion, easiest ways of being happy is performing random acts of kindness without expecting anything in return. I am not referring to offering money or going completely out of the way for someone. Opening the door for someone who has their hands full, buying coffee for the person behind you and even complimenting someone at work for things they probably hardly get recognized for are great random acts of kindness.  On my my favourites is offering compliments to people who might are dressed well, have great hair or gorgeous skin. Remember, we are our own worst critics and don’t always feel great. A compliment goes a very long way and can make someone’s day. It’s amazing how grateful people feel when you perform random acts of kindness. It brings happiness to others, and in itself easily brings a smile to your face.

Exercise or Meditate

Not everyone loves sports or working out like my husband and I do, but if you do love an activity, or sport, fitting it into your lifestyle can really help you relieve stress. Either way, finding that outlet is important to overall well being. Activities that really help reduce stress and elevate happiness are yoga and meditation. You can learn great breathing techniques and help you unwind, breathe and clear your mind. In my personal experience, Body Flow (a form of Yoga) has helped me manage sleeplessness and unforeseen anxiety.

Plenty of Sleep

Getting a good night’s rest is a huge pick me up. It’s a no brainer for all of us, isn’t it? Have you ever been invited to some kind of dinner or event and have wanted to tell that person that you’re just too tired to attend? I know I have. Exhaustion often means less energy for friends, time spent on things you love and patience throughout the day. Make sure you get plenty of rest throughout the week so that you lead a happier, healthier life.

Embrace the Child In You

Have you ever looked at kids and think, wouldn’t it be nice to be so carefree, creative and happy? Reliving your childhood is something worth holding onto. While there are many situations where you should be self aware and not behave like a child, bringing back a piece of childhood and taking life less seriously is incredibly refreshing.

Last weekend, I had a little more fun with style, wearing something a little more carefree and fun. I love the playful print and bright colors. There’s something really youthful in wearing bright colors and bold patterns that brightens the day.

I hope you all have a wonderful well-rested week filled with happy moments that brighten each day.  If you enjoyed this post, leave me a comment below. What is your tip for living a happier life?

What an amazing look and post! I don;t know where to start from! 🙂 First of all the Kenzo x HM top is fabulous and you styled it to perfection! Such a great balance of edgy chic! I agree with all your points here and these actions are always in my self development routine. Something else that helped me a lot was staying away from what we call “toxic people”, that are the opposite of what you are describing here, and my life got instantly better. Meditation and good sleep, and acts of kindness are critical for my well being too 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing, hope you are having an amazing start to the week my dear Miki!

Apart from the fact that you look stunning in that Kenzo x H&M collab I really appreciate your tips of habits. I’m actually quite good at most of them, BUT I do not get enough of sleep and that seriously dampens all the other habits as insufficient amount of sleep leads to your body revolting. 🙁 So I have to and will improve on that!

These are absolutely tips we need to ruminate over every day! I especially agree with complimenting others (I do it as often as possible) and including movement in your life – exercising has helped me so much lately with stress relief and feeling more energized. Hopefully I’ll add the sleep factor on there soon. I don’t get enough of it!

First of, I loveee your outfit! That top is sooooo cute! I love the distressed jeans too! I have been trying to find some that would actually fit me perfectly! I love your post by the way! I have to agree with all of them because it is good to be true to yourself, if you focus on others and just do what others want you to do, you will be miserable and stressed. My problem is not getting enough sleep! That is one thing I have been trying to focus on because blogging and working a full time job is a lot of stress. So I try to relax on the weekend to make up for it even though it doesn’t do justice if I don’t sleep throughout the week. Thank you for the reminder Miki!

  • Bukky November 24, 2016 at 11:13 am

Great post Miki, I couldn’t agree more! I myself realized a couple of days ago that, more often than none, I don’t compliment as much as I should. The worst part of it is I also forget to payback compliments, which I beat myself about more. Paying complement doesn’t only make the other person feels good, it actually also makes you the giver feel good when you see the smile on the other persons face. A lot of us might not think of it this way, but taking note to pay other people complements really does contribute to personal happiness. You couldn’t have said it better.

I totally agree. Sometimes when someone is having a bad day, a small compliment can really boost their day! Sometimes we think it’s so silly to keep to ourselves, but really, a lot of people really appreciate things like that. 🙂 Don’t be so hard on yourself. People don’t pay compliments expecting one in return. It’s truly nice to do once in awhile as a selfless act. 🙂

I love all these tips you’ve shared to living a happier, healthier life. They’re so simple but also all very applicable to everybody! I’ve been having some struggles with my career path, but I always try to take time to meditate and get ample sleep! Despite how diligent I work, I always set aside time to relax and unwind as well for some balance in my life.

I always need more sleep. Since moving to the US, I haven’t had the same level of sleep and am so excited to adjust it a little more! It increases quality of life! Thanks Atsuna!

YES! “Being true to yourself” – I also define this as accepting who you are which can be difficult at times when everything is defined by someone else standards. This is the basic tool of a happy life. Enjoyed your post, Miki! xoxo

What a beautiful post, Miki! I think complimenting and random acts of kindness are one of the easiest and best ways to show others you care! You look gorgeous in all your photos! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! xo

Wow these photos are gorgeous! I’m so sad I missed out on the keno x hm collaboration. But I get to see it vicariously through you 😉 I’m all about the random acts of kindness. I got all these gourmet chocolates as a blog gift and after eating way too much of it, I gave it away and the person went on about how much their kids loved it. It made me so happy! I was like I need to do more of this.

It sold out so fast, didn’t it?! Usually when we buy bulk or have a lot of food, Tom and I give some to the homeless. Also, if we don’t finish our food at the dinner table, we pack it up and as we drive and see someone living on the street, we give it to them, too. Seriously, it’s so easy to take small things such as food for granted. Thanks so much Yasmin for that reminder!
