3 Stylish Ways to Wear a Sheer or Mesh Dress

Back in November, I picked up my third mesh dress. When I am taken by an article of clothing, I think of the various ways I’d wear it. No matter what the cost, I find myself justifying the purchase. Mesh dresses that are partially or completely transparent are not that commonly seen on the street, but I like to take something over the top and dress it in a fashion that is every-day-wearable. Albeit, it’s not an outfit most would wear to work, but it’s definitely wearable for the weekends and evenings and I’m going to share 3 ways you can wear a mesh dress so that it’s appropriate and you don’t feel like you’re walking around bare.

Jacket/Blazer with Pants and Crop Top/Bralette
My favourite way to wear a mesh dress is to actually wear it over jeans/leather pants and under a jacket with a bralette. In the past 3 months, I’d worn the mesh this way 3 other times: once with my pearl heel flat pink sandals as seen in this post, and twice with heels these Gucci ones here and my Valentino’s in this post here. If you have a few bralettes in your drawer as I do, it’s a great way to wear them. If you are not comfortable walking out in a bralette, a cropped or full length tank top will work perfectly. Playing with some transparency is sensual and sexy, but not over the top when you have trousers and a blazer or jacket over top.

Illusion of Separates
One of my favourite looks for a dress is making it appear as though it’s a skirt. It’s still cold somewhere in this world, so throwing a sweater (or jumper) over top and pairing it with a jeans make it feel feminine but more casual. Some would wear sneakers with this but I personally love finishing the look with heels.

Creating the Lining
Finally, wearing it simply as a dress, but with some coverage you feel most comfortable in. A tank dress, or even a tank top with a black mini skirt can create the illusion that this is how the dress was purchase.

Love the mesh dress and these ideas too! Honestly, this is one clothing piece I avoid as I don’t know how to style it to suit the everyday context. Like the idea though of layering it properly, making it look like a skirt. I’d love a floral mesh dress for summer time, they’re just so delicate and gorgeous. Have a lovely week Miki and thank you for the inspo, Xx

Glad you enjoyed the post. I wouldn’t worry about when you wear it too much. I wear this for dinner, out to the outdoor mall with a friend, etc. I don’t overthink it. I don’t live in a big city like New York or Toronto anymore so I have gotten used to wearing things whenever I want and I know you’d pull mesh or sheer dresses off so nicely. 🙂 Have a great week Mia!
