I’ll be the first to admit that I am a romantic and dreamer. When it came to dating, people used to ask me what I looked for. The answer was always the same: someone who had a great heart and good intentions. It was never about money or status. Someone with money or status doesn’t bring love because cruel intentions or behaviours will end that. In the entire process of dating I eventually met my husband who happened to be extremely respectful, loving, romantic, smart, athletic as I was and open to always trying new things.

I know that for many of you see that I travel quite a bit but when I’m in town I still want to feel like I’m getting new experiences and finding new things to try nearby. I’ll admit, it’s been a huge challenge where I live in Florida, especially coming from Toronto and Los Angeles where there are plenty of events, sites, society activities and entertainment, but no matter where you are there is always something you have never done. Just last week, Tom and I went for one of many fine dining restaurants, Bull and Bear at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel with a view of the evening fireworks near Disneyworld.

On this occasion, we parked across the street from the restaurant and stopped for 2 minutes out in from for a few quick photos. For Spring, bold stripes, statement earrings and kitten heels are trending and I’ve decided to wear these three together.

If you have been away from home travelling and want to still have a relaxing date night, I have a few good options below.

Today I’m sharing some appropriate date looks and date ideas than a help you keep your romance for life alive!

DATE IDEAS

1) New Brunch or Happy Hour Spots
I love food – who doesn’t? I love a great happy hour, brunch or late night menu to indulge. It’s affordable and a great way to try something new.

2) Bike Ride Someplace New
I love this because it’s affordable and adventurous. Buy a bike rack for your car and drive to a beach or park you’ve never been to.

3) Taking a Dip & Get Some Much Deserved Pampering
Water therapies are one of the perks of booking a massage at resort spa but if that’s too much damage for your wallet, there’s often a water therapy fee for people who just want to use the amenities and it’s much cheaper. Tom and I try to go for a couple massage every couple of weeks. It’s a nice way to just treat yourself an enjoy each other’s company.

4) Picnic at the Park or Beach
I love a good picnic. It’s one of my favourite things to do. if you don’t want to do all the prepping, pick up some sandwiches or food when you’re arriving at your destination and throw down a blanket, glasses, some cute cushions and spend a few hours enjoying each other’s company

5) Surprise Movie Night
Write a list of all the movies you want to see. then cut each one off, fold and toss it into a bag. On a night you want to stay in, pull one from the jar, open a bottle of wine, order some good food and cuddle up on the couch for a movie night. I do have to say that there’s a movie theater in the US that I like to go to that serves food inside of the theater while you’re watching a movie so if you have one of those and have arm rests that go up and seats recline that’s always a great option.

6) Day Trip
My favorite kind of activity is travel, so a road trip is probably no surprise. I have a habit of taking off for the weekend or a few days every couple of weeks, but if you don’t have the time, a day trip is really nice! Nothing like a great impromptu day trip to add some adventure into your life.

7) Think Higher
If you are in search of something special, a great view is always a treat. In many cities there are bars on upper levels, but before late night hours, those places are often great for a bite and sunset. Find a local high rise and check to see if there is a restaurant, bar, pool or cafe and pop on by. It’ll feel like an immediate getaway.

8) At-Home Travel Foodie
Can’t leave the house? Bake or cook something you both love to eat but never made at all together. One of the best things about traveling is coming across some of the best food in the world! There are times where you will not be able to return for an extended period of time, but you can often find similar recipes, the chef’s recipe or even ones inspired by the chef online.

9) Dancing Lessons
Before Tom, I used to go salsa dancings occasionally on Wednesday nights and when we started dating, I suggested we try it together. He’s athletic and coordinated, so he picked it up immediately, but if the person you’re dating isn’t, taking dance lessons is enjoyable. The good thing about dancing together is that you get to hold each other closely for at least an hour and share some good laughs. Plus, with lessons, almost everyone is a beginner.

10) Recreate Your First Date
Tom and I recently recreated our first date taken in Orlando. It brings back great memories and is a sweet way to spend an evening. I know that every time I’m back in Toronto, I am always

11) Restaurant Hopping
My husband lived in Spain for years and one thing they always do there is go bar hopping for drinks and tapas. One of the things we like to do is try new food so trying more than one place per night and sharing only the best dish at each place is kind of a fun way to experience something new and enjoy a fun night togheter.

12) Star Gazing
Pack many blankets and some hot beverages and take a drive further north where you are clear of light pollution, and watch the stars.

13) Local Events, Sporting Games, Plays or Concerts
A great way to get some entertainment without having to plan much is to catch a game or concert. In March, Tom and I watched a hockey game and went to a concert. They’re a great way to have some entertainment and get out of the house when you’re not travelling the world. It’s also fun to do in other cities. Broadway musicals are among my favourite in New York and London. Local markets, street festivals, aquarium and museums are a lot of great local things you can do together. These are all activities you can think of doing in any city you travel to as well.

14) Plan Trips Together
Making a list of your top 10 places to visit over the next 5 years is a great way to lay out all your travel ideas on the table. It also gets you both into planning out which ones you will book next. If you’re like us, you’ll start checking for flights, packages, costs and budgeting so you can achieve those travel goals faster.

15) Workout Buddies
I generally love to work out solo, but having a workout buddy to push you to be better is great. If you are not up for high intensity workouts, you’ll at least both need to stretch afterwards, so yoga can often be a wonderful option for those who have totally different ideas for fitness.

What is of your most romantic date to date? I’d love to hear below.

I love this list of cute romantic date ideas! LOL funny story — I am NOT the athletic type BUT I do know how to bike… so one of David & my first dates was a bike ride along Coronado in San Diego. We had a blast for a couple hours before I rode over some bump and my stupid bike basket totally fell. I didn’t realize that my bag inside that basket was unzipped and all the contents fell out and tumbled onto the floor. I was still going at full speed and ran over my BRAND NEW iPhone at the time… and at that point I literally lost it. Full on meltdown mode. Talk about a lasting impression. But we’re still together so I guess that’s good news HAHAHA. Since then though, David hasn’t suggested a bike ride for a date (lol). Perhaps we’ll give the others a try, like a picnic at the park with the dogs before it gets too hot. Thanks for sharing these ideas Miki! xo, sharon
